Regulatory context
The National Bank of Rwanda requires disaster recovery sites to sit at least 40 km from the primary site. The Rwanda region meets this in-country with two availability zones: Kigali and Huye, 130 km apart. Regulated workloads no longer have to route disaster recovery to South Africa or Europe. The region also peers on RINEX, the Rwanda Internet Exchange, keeping local traffic local and reducing latency across both zones.
